Our Activities

There’s no better way to fully immerse yourself in Latin American culture than to participate in any one of the endless activities that are available here in Xela! Activities can be carried out individually or in groups. Keep in mind that these activities are optional and are not included with the price of the program. That being said, they’re usually not too expensive. A museum visit could cost around $3-4 and dance classes can range anywhere from $7-20.

Here at CBA, we host a few of our own activities! Every week, a list of three or four movies reflecting cultural, social, economic and/or political realities faced here in Guatemala and Central America is posted so that the students can vote for which movie they’d like to watch. This activity is free and it takes place on Thursday nights!

On Friday nights, we have a school dinner and/or viernes cultural which translates to “Cultural Friday.” These events either take place in the school or in a predetermined location. Viernes cultural is where we celebrate the local culture and generate more employment by hiring local artists to perform for us. These artists may be painters, musicians, poets, etc. These activities generally range from $4-10. A minimum participation of 10 students is required for viernes cultural to take place.

Aside from these fixed activities, we frequently host others and/or coordinate with external organizations to provide you with the experiences that appeal to your interests. The list of activities here in Xela is truly endless, but to give you an idea…
